is a Professional Chess Master and one of LI’s top ten players who teaches chess full time in several Nassau County School districts. He defeated a Grand Master in 1998 at the US Masters, received the international title of FIDE Master in 1994, and was awarded the Life Master (1993) and the National Master (1992) titles from the United Chess Federation. His experience as a tournament arbiter and organizer includes competitions for Inter-national Grandmasters. BA in Mathematics, Johns Hopkins University.
GERALD TOWNS is ranked in the 93rd percentile of tournament players. He was ranked as a top 100 player for his age groups when he was 15, 16, 17, and 18 years of age. He has participated in 135 rated tournaments. He has extensive experience teaching in after-school programs, camps, and giving private lessons.
