BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE NUTCRACKER BALLET

On December 8th, our Dance Competition students, parents and Gold Coast Arts dance teachers experienced the magic and wonder of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. Students were treated to a guided backstage tour of the New York City Ballet’s treasured holiday favorite, where they were captivated by the lure of Tschaikovsky’s music, Balanchine’s choreography, beautiful costumes, and magical sets. For some, it was their first experience at Lincoln Center. Everyone was invited on stage before the dancers performed for an amazing photo they’ll never forget.

A Day of ART at The Met!

On December 14th, School Director Ellen Schiff accompanied her
Advanced Level II Drawing & Painting students to The Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York City, along with GCA art teacher Dani Garofalo.

For many of the students, it was their first time visiting The Met! They marveled at the Temple of Dendur, one of the most iconic, architectural works of art at the museum. They spent time reflecting in the Sculpture Garden, and had fun recreating the 3D quality of the marble sculptures in their amazing renderings.

Walking through the comprehensive impressionist art collection was a fantastic experience for the students. They were able to view many paintings they had only seen in print form. What they loved most was Claude Monet’s Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies, which they have painted in class many times. Everyone loved the visit and can’t wait for another museum trip next semester as we continue to take our Art on the Road!

ART at the New York Botanical Gardens!

A recent creative excursion in May by one of Gold Coast Arts’ Advanced Drawing & Painting classes was at the New York Botanical Gardens, where students spent a beautiful day doing plein-air painting. School Director Ellen Schiff accompanied her Advanced Level II Drawing & Painting class along with GCA art teacher Dani Garofalo.
