ART

Tuition for art classes includes all supplies.

ART APPRECIATION – (Ages 4-6)

This class is a perfect introduction for the young artist. Storytelling is combined with expression through art. Reference will be made to famous artists throughout history to assist in learning. Students will learn art basics including understanding of shapes and color, incorporating lessons into their creations. Various mediums will be used including pastels, paint and collage. Maximum 6 students per class.

DRAWING & PAINTING – Introduction – Advanced (Ages 7+)

Ages 7+ (or instructor permission). A focus on drawing and painting from observation and imagination, using pencil, charcoal, pastels and paint. Form, color, composition and perspective will be emphasized through stimulating and innovative projects. Advanced students should have the ability to develop projects over a 2-3 week period.

CARTOONING – (Ages 7-16)

This course offers traditional and contemporary forms of making cartoons. Children who are interested in cartooning techniques such as character design, comic strips and storytelling will learn hands-on drawing techniques. Project themes are student centered, giving the children a sense of control over what they learn and a resources to create unique works of art. Also included are studies of essential components of advanced animation including stop motion photography and cel development, used by Disney. Maximum 6 students per class.

CERAMICS

Tuition for ceramics classes includes all supplies.

SPIRIT OF CLAY

Learn pinch, slab, and coil construction methods as well as the use of molds. Decorative treatments that will be utilized include stamps, stencils and silkscreen Students will glaze and finish their pieces using multiple glazing technique. Sculptural, decorative, and functional possibilities in clay will be explored through brief demonstrations, class discussions, and individual consultations. Maximum 8 students per class.

DANCE

Costume fee for recital is included in tuition for all dance classes. Dance classes marked “competition” are for dance competition students only.  

Please Note: It is very common for students to repeat ballet levels in order to gain the proper and safe technique needed to advance.

Students will learn the basics of ballet and the fun of hip hop and jazz while working on flexibility, balance, building strength and rhythm in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. Dress: Black leotard, pink tights and jazz shoes. Maximum 8 students per class.

BEGINNER BALLET (Age 5 / students entering kindergarten)

For students who have already taken primary ballet and Primary Ballet/Tap Classes and would like to continue to study ballet in a more formal atmosphere. In this 60-minute class, students will learn the basics of ballet technique. Students will also exercise simple skills to improve coordination and flexibility as well as to develop their musicality and memorization skills. Maximum 8 students per class.

Dress: Students must wear a pink leotard with pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Hair must be in a bun. No tutus or skirts.

Pre-requisite: at least one year of ballet experience.

Building on the foundation students from Ballet 1/Ballet 2, these ballet classes focus on more advanced technique, posture, proper alignment, terminology, spatial orientation and expressive response to music as well as flexibility. Students must have some basic ballet knowledge. Maximum 8 students per class.

Dress: Black leotard, pink tights, skirt, and pink ballet slippers. Hair must be pulled back in a bun.

BASIC BEGINNER POINTE (Ages 11+)

This is a 30-minute class for students in Ballet 5 who are serious about ballet. Dancing on toe requires great strength in the legs and feet. All dancers must be formally evaluated by their ballet teacher to determine if they are physically ready to meet the demands of pointe work. To attend this class, students must be enrolled in or have completed Ballet 5. Dancers must bring their pointe shoes and accessories unsewn to the first day of pointe class to be checked by their teacher. Maximum 5 students per class.

Dress: Black leotard with pink tights and black ballet skirt. Hair must be pulled back in a bun. Note: Choosing the correct pointe shoe is extremely important. Purchase dance shoes from a reputable dance shop to ensure proper fit. (No costume required for dance recital)

ACROBATICS – (Ages 5+)

BEGINNER ACROBATICS 2 (Ages 8+)

Students attending this class should already have an understanding and the ability to perform tumbles, cartwheels and other foundations of Acrobatics and tumbling. Students in level 2 will continue to evolve their flexibility and begin to work on partnering, elbow stands, chin stands, front and back walk overs as well as dive cartwheels and much much more! Maximum 6 students per class.

Dress: Black Leotard and black shorts or leggings. No shoes. Hair pulled back.

TECHNIQUE – (Ages 7+)

In this class students work on the fundamentals of dance which includes body placement, form, flexibility and coordination. Dancers will also be taught proper technique for a variety of turns and leaps and will continue to build their skills. There is no costume for the recital for this class. Combines the technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom, fluidity and the expressive aspects of jazz and modern dance. Competiton Lyrical A, B, C: Classes for students who are a part of GCAC’s Competition Dance Team. Students MUST audition to be a part of the dance team and must be in Ballet at least 1 year prior to joining the team.

YOGA

YOGA – (Ages 6-9)

Yoga is an ancient healing practice known to calm the body, mind, and emotions. In this playful yoga children will learn yoga poses, breathing, and relaxation exercises which cultivate a calm mind, increase strength and flexibility, improve gross and fine motor skills, improve concentration, and give students tools to manage stress in their daily lives. Each class ends with a period of relaxation. Classes will be held on Zoom weekly and students should have a yoga mat for class. No experience necessary. Maximum 6 students per class. Please bring your own yoga mat / towel.

YOGA FOR SENIORS

NEW! For those searching for a form of movement which is gentler in style and addresses physical limitations, this class is for you. Using chairs where appropriate for support and balance, this class incorporates gentle Yoga, Pilates and movement exercises, as well as meditation, specific to the needs of seniors. PAINLESS PIANO – (Ages 4-8)

Lessons for young children are designed specifically to make the process of learning piano easy and fun. Concepts introduced include rhythm, movement, reading, music notation and more. FUTURE IDOL – (Ages 10+)

(One year of vocal training or audition required)

Want to be a star or just look like one? If you’ve ever wanted to be like a singer you hear on TV then you will love this class. Can’t sing? Musicians of all kinds are welcome! Bring your guitar, sax or any instrument and help to create a magical performance. Students will learn the art of performing songs in various styles such as rock, R&B, folk and country. The instructor will help a young artist’s confidence in his/her ability to perform while reinforcing proper vocal technique. Private voice lessons may be taken with this class. Maximum 6 students per class.

CHESS

CHESS MATES: INTRO TO CHESS- (Ages 6+)

In-person instruction by nationally ranked chess expert Jack Niculescu, ranked in the top 3% of all US chess players. This interactive class covers an introduction to the game, including rules and strategies. A great way for students to learn the game everyone is talking about.No previous knowledge of chess required, just a strong desire to learn. Maximum 8 students per class.

KNIGHTCLUB – (Experienced players, Ages 7+)

An invitation to all Kings & Queens! Join our Knightclub and show off your moves! A complete understanding of chess rules required. This class will consist of a 30-minute talk which includes a focused lesson and relevant puzzles. Students will interact with the instructor while playing with other students. All facets and phases of the game will be covered. Maximum 8 students per class.

ROBOTICS

BEGINNER / INTERMEDIATE (Ages 7+)

Robot Mechanics & Engineering Design (Beginner/Intermediate)
Using VEX IQ kits, students will actively utilize the Engineering Design process as they develop robot models to participate in the challenge of the season. Students will engage in a series of guided challenges, culminating in a robot design of their own. Using simple programming, students will make their robots move autonomously to complete the challenge, including, navigating a maze, seeking and retrieving objects, and SUMO-bots. Use of your own tablet is suggested. We will assist in downloading programs. Maximum 12 students per class.

FENCING

Placement is based on student’s level, assessed by instructor. All students will be provided with their own cleaned fencing garb to be used weekly.

BEGINNER FENCING (Ages 7-16)

We will start you on the path to enjoy this martial art with a weapon: protocol, safety, foundation footwork, attack, and parry-riposte. You will have the opportunity to fence each other at your level. Maximum 6 students per class.
