Film Series FAQs

We show a lot of films throughout the year, so we took some time to answer the most frequently asked questions about our film series, please take a moment to review the following FAQs. If you don’t see your questions answered here, feel free to give us a call at 516-829-2570!

What makes a Gold Coast film screening different from other movie screenings?

We’re glad you asked! Nearly all Gold Coast films are preview screenings, meaning they have not yet been released to the general public. So you’ll be among the first in our area to see great new films. Our screenings are also always followed by a conversation with a notable guest, such as a filmmaker, actor, expert in a film’s subject, or film industry professional.

Where do you hold your screenings?

Most screenings during our year-round film screening series are held at the Bow Tie Squire Theater in Great Neck or Soundview Cinemas in Port Washington.  Please make sure to double check your ticket for the venue for your film.

What time do doors open?

In general, doors open approximately 30 – 45 minutes before each screening.

Can I select my seat in advance?

While your ticket does guarantee you a seat in the theatre, we do not reserve individual seats in advance. All tickets are General Admission and seats are first-come, first-served.  Please get to the theater as close to the time the doors open as you can so you can get a seat to your liking.  To be fair to all ticketholders, we ask that you DO NOT save seats for the rest of your party who have not yet arrived.

PLEASE NOTE – we do sometimes reserve seats for our sponsors, Board Members and guest speakers. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or Board Member, please call 516-829-2570.

What is a Film Society Membership?

What if I bought tickets to a film and can’t attend?

If you are unable to attend a film, you may transfer your tickets to a friend. In some instances we are able to “swap” your tickets for another film.  Swaps MUST be arranged in advance with Series Coordinator by calling 516-829-2570. Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will always be able to swap tickets.

How much do individual tickets cost?

Ticket prices are:
$15 – adults and seniors, purchased in advance
$10 – Film Society Members and students (with a valid student ID), purchased in advance
$20 – ALL tickets purchased at the door
NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS will be issued for tickets you purchase and do not use.

Can I buy a ticket at the door?

As long as we’re not sold out, tickets may be purchased at the door. PLEASE NOTE that tickets are $20 when purchased at the door, versus $15 ($10 for students & members) when purchased in advance. Also, many of our films sell out and tickets will not be available at the door so it is best to purchase in advance if possible.

Do I need a physical ticket when I come to see the film?

For tickets purchased in advance:

  • If you selected to have your tickets held at the door at Will Call, please come to the Gold Coast check-in table in the theater lobby to pick up your tickets.
  • If you selected to have your ticket emailed to you in advance, please print it out and bring it with you to the film. If for some reason you were unable to print the ticket at home, please come to our check-in table and we will look up your order.
A screening I want to attend is sold out. How can I get tickets?

If a screening is listed as sold out, you can call us at 516-829-2570 to add your name to the waitlist, and in the event that more tickets become available, we will call you. Additionally, RUSH tickets may be available at the theater. If any seats are available at the time the movie starts, they will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. All tickets sold at the door are $20. The BEST way to make sure you don’t get shut out of a screening? Buy your tickets early! And join our email list to be the first to find out about film screenings.

Do you offer group ticket sales?
