Meet Jeffrey Gurian, GCIFF’s Head of Live Comedy Programming

This year, greater Long Island will become “Laugh Island” as The Gold Coast International Film Festival shines a spotlight on Comedy with a program of films and events with legendary comedians, writers and actors.  We are excited to introduce you to our Head of Live Comedy Programming….(drumroll please)…comedy Writer/Producer/Director Jeffrey Gurian!  We sat down with Jeffrey to get the inside scoop and find out more about who he is and what he is most excited about at this year’s festival.

GCIFF: How would you describe your brand of comedy to a complete stranger?

JG: A mix of Woody Allen and Monty Python’s Flying Circus!

GCIFF: What is your favorite movie and why?

JGBorat, because it’s the only comedy I remember in many years where the entire audience laughed hysterically throughout most of the movie.

GCIFF: What comedian do you most admire?

JG: I don’t “admire” any comic. I do appreciate their talent, and there are quite a few especially: Nick Kroll, Gilbert Gottfried, Lisa Lampanelli, Susie Essman, and Russell Peters

GCIFF: What non-comedian public figure do you most admire?

JG: Rep. Peter King

GCIFF: What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?

JG: “Stick with the winners.” I don’t recall who told that to me, but I try and practice that.

GCIFF: Who were some of your favorite comedians to work with?

JG: Rodney Dangerfield, Phil Hartman, and Joan Rivers.

GCIFF: What are you looking forward to at the Gold Coast International Film Festival?

JG: Lots of laughs especially at the Susie Essman gala on October 23! This is an event you definitely do not want to miss!
