CREATIVE CORNER – (Ages 3-4)

This class will introduce toddlers to a wide variety of art experiences in which the process is valued more highly than any finished product that might emerge. We will explore various mediums such as paint, watercolors and clay. The materials used will heighten their senses, imagination and creativity. (Parents welcome to stay and assist children.) ART APPRECIATION – (Ages 5-6)

This class is a perfect introduction for the young artist. Storytelling is combined with expression through art. Reference will be made to famous artists throughout history to assist in learning. DRAWING & PAINTING – Introduction – Advanced (Ages 7+)

Ages 7+ (or instructor permission). A focus on drawing and painting from observation and imagination, using pencil, charcoal, pastels and paint. Form, color, composition and perspective will be emphasized through stimulating and innovative projects. Advanced students should have the ability to develop projects over a 2-3 week period.

CARTOONING – Ages 7-16 (All Levels)

This course offers traditional and contemporary forms of making cartoons. Children who are interested in cartooning techniques such as character design, comic strips and storytelling will learn hands-on drawing techniques. Project themes are student centered, giving the children a sense of control over what they learn and resources to create unique works of art. Also included are studies of essential components of advanced animation including stop motion photography and cel development, used by Disney. Maximum 12 students per class.

SPIRIT OF CLAY – Ages 7-10+ (All Levels)

Learn pinch, slab, and coil construction methods as well as the use of molds. Decorative treatments that will be utilized include stamps, stencils and silkscreen Students will glaze and finish their pieces using multiple glazing techniques. Sculptural, decorative, and functional possibilities in clay will be explored through brief demonstrations, class discussions, and individual consultations. Maximum 8 students per class.

This is a fun class for adults to work with clay!

For students who have already taken primary ballet and Primary Ballet/Tap Classes and would like to continue to study ballet in a more formal atmosphere. In this 60-minute class, students will learn the basics of ballet technique. Students will also exercise simple skills to improve coordination and flexibility as well as to develop their musicality and memorization skills. Building on the foundation students from Ballet 1/Ballet 2, these ballet classes focus on more advanced technique, posture, proper alignment, terminology, spatial orientation and expressive response to music as well as flexibility. Students must have some basic ballet knowledge. Dress: Black leotard, pink tights, skirt, and pink ballet slippers. Hair must be pulled back in a bun.  Maximum 8 students per class.

BASIC BEGINNER POINTE (Ages 11+)

This is a 30-minute class for students in Ballet 5-Ballet 7 who are serious about ballet. Dancing on toe requires great strength in the legs and feet. All dancers must be formally evaluated by their ballet teacher to determine if they are physically ready to meet the demands of pointe work. To attend this class, students must be enrolled in or have completed Ballet 5, 6 or 7. Dancers must bring their pointe shoes and accessories unsewn to the first day of pointe class to be checked by their teacher.  Dress: Black leotard with pink tights and black ballet skirt. Hair must be pulled back in a bun. Note: Choosing the correct pointe shoe is extremely important. Purchase dance shoes from a reputable dance shop to ensure proper fit. (No costume required for dance recital)

BEGINNER ACROBATICS 1 (Ages 5-8)

A progressive class where students will learn the fundamental building blocks to gymnastics technique. Focus will be on learning forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, handstands, walkovers and more. Students will also work on their flexibility and strength. Dress: Black leotard and black shorts or leggings. No shoes. Hair pulled back. Maximum 6 students per class.

Students attending this class should already have an understanding and the ability to perform tumbles, cartwheels and other foundations of Acrobatics and tumbling. Students in level 2 will continue to evolve their flexibility and begin to work on partnering, elbow stands, chin stands, front and back walk overs as well as dive cartwheels and much much more! In this class students work on the fundamentals of dance which includes body placement, form, flexibility and coordination. HIP HOP – (Ages 5+)

Learn popular Hip Hop moves as well as learn the fundamentals and history of Hip Hop dance. Express yourself  and find your inner rhythm and funk in this fun filled class. Dress: clothes should be comfortable-T-shirts, sweatpants, shorts at an appropriate length, sneakers (ie: Adidas, Converse low top sneakers, Nike are acceptable for class). Maximum 8 students per class.

HIP HOP/ACRO (Ages 5-6)

Learn popular Hip Hop moves as well as learn the fundamentals of basic Tumbling and Floor Acrobatics/ Breakdancing. Dress: Comfortable but fitted. Gymnastics and dance leotards may be worn, as well as fitted T-Shirts/ tank tops. *Shirts should NOT go over the head when upside down. Leggings, sweatpants, joggers, or shorts at an appropriate length are acceptable bottoms. Shoes: Black low-top sneakers that are only worn to class.

FUTURE IDOL – (Ages 10+)

(One year of vocal training or audition required)

Want to be a star or just look like one? If you’ve ever wanted to be like a singer you heard on TV then you will love this class. Musicians of all kinds are welcome! Bring your guitar, sax or any instrument and help to create a magical performance. Students will learn the art of performing songs in various styles such as rock, R&B, folk and country. Our instructor will help a young artist build confidence in his/her ability to perform while reinforcing proper vocal technique. Private voice lessons may be taken with this class. Performance will be on the last day of class. Maximum 10 students per class.

ACTING & MUSICAL THEATRE

BROADWAY BOUND JUNIOR CHILDREN’S THEATRE – (Ages 6-8)

This class will teach elementary acting, singing, and dancing. Our performance for the semester will be a Broadway Showcase from Broadway hits. Performance on May 16 from 6:00-6:45pm. Tuition includes two tickets to the performance. Maximum 16 students per class.

BROADWAY BOUND: CHILDREN’S THEATRE – (Ages 9-14)

Dance and sing along to popular Broadway hits in a creative environment. This class will teach elementary acting, singing, and dancing. Our performance for the semester will be Broadway revue style. Performance on April 30 from 12:30-1:15pm. Tuition includes two tickets to the performance. Maximum 16 students per class.

CHESS

CHESS MATES: INTRO TO CHESS – (Ages 6+)

In-person instruction by nationally ranked chess expert Jack Niculescu, ranked in the top 3% of all US chess players. This interactive class covers an introduction to the game, including rules and strategies. A great way for students to learn the game everyone is talking about. No previous knowledge of chess required, just a strong desire to learn. Maximum 10 students per class.

KNIGHTCLUB – (Experienced players, Ages 7+)

An invitation to all Kings & Queens! Join our Knightclub and show off your moves! A complete understanding of chess rules required. This class will consist of a 30-minute talk which includes a focused lesson and relevant puzzles. Students will interact with the instructor while playing games with other students. All facets and phases of the game will be covered. Maximum 12 students per class.

FENCING

Placement is based on student’s level, assessed by instructor. All students will be provided with their own cleaned fencing garb to be used weekly.

BEGINNER FENCING – (Ages 7+)

We will start you on the path to enjoy this martial art with a foil. Expert instruction on protocol, safety, foundation footwork, attack, and parry-riposte. You will have the opportunity to fence with a partner at your level. Maximum 8 students per class.

Building on your fundamental skills, we will learn more advanced footwork, attack and defense skills. We will also learn battle strategies, applying them in more time bouting (fencing each other, one on one). Maximum 8 students per class.
